Disassembling and cleaning air filter and airbox

The purpose of the air filter to prevent abrasive material from entering the engine damage components.

You may find three basic types:
  • filter paper disposable foam filter
  • poliuretanic
  • filter washable cotton
Each of these different types of filter requires a different maintenance.
That paper is disassembled, blown with compressed air every 5-6 thousand miles and replaced every 15-20 thousand. That goes hand in
sponge washed every 5-6 thousand miles and thoroughly dried. It must then be anointed with oil spray fluid or viscous enough engine oil (SAE 80 or more).

The same operation can be repeated with cotton filters even if the performance increase that promise is not 'what actually got really. Being more permeable to let in far more 'dirt' of the other filters.
For a real increase in performance and 'need to rely on expert preparation, or maybe a kit ready for sale (which contain airbox, needles and jets).

The increase in performance and 'apparent motion of setting up not too sporty, a little' less on the latter.

To remove the filter, refer to the owner's manual and maintenance, since no two bikes in the world with similar filter. Usually, however, you must remove the seat, a side panel or the tank is below the air box (usually a black plastic box that beat sounds empty) with a lid secured with a screw, unscrew everything and are in the filter. On this occasion we take a aspiratina with a vacuum cleaner, or we clean with a rag, the airbox before reassemble. If it is all a bit 'too greasy, it is because the engine starts to be antiquated and venting of the oil vapor condenses all the oil nell'airbox.
